KYCO FOOD DISTRIBUTION FOR THE HOMELESS IN KL

Saturday, 22.06.2024

Last Saturday, brought the KYCO CSP Senior Boys Students, Z.Yong, Aaron and S.Lap to help with the KYCO Food Distribution for the Homeless.

There were 4 Distribution Points:
1) Pudu, near Foong Lian Claypot Foods Cafe;
2) Old Bangkok Bank Area;
3) Near Segi College Student Resource Centre
4) Chow Kit Area, near Jalan Belia

The recipients received a packet of Nasi Lemak with Sambal, half an egg, ikan bilis, cucumber and ground nuts. This was completed by a piece of cake and a bottle of drinks. We also added a packet of Milo.

Our three Boys took over responsibility for the food distribution for the last 3 Distribution Points; they asked Abang Amin, his Wife and Daughter to relax and chill while they took charge of the distribution 😅

According to Abang Amin, a Total of 356 packets of Nasi Lemak was distributed to the Homeless at the 4 Distribution Points in KL that Saturday.

I brought the Boys to do the distribution, hoping

1) to awaken their caring and compassionate hearts, so that they may also give their care and time to help the "down trodden" in future when they are gainfully employed;

2) that they will realise that no matter how hard they may think their situation is, there are those in more difficult situations, who not only have no food to eat regularly, but also do not have a roof over their heads, and without proper, clean clothings to wear;

3) for them to appreciate that it is better to be the giver, than the receiver; hopefully they will be motivated to study hard to get into College or University so that they may be gainfully employed and be financially independent in the near future.

I know the Boys were moved by what they observed; old folks having to queue with humility to collect food, those with injury, even a lady who was pregnant and little children from all races queuing patiently for their meal for the day.

When I first got to know these Boys, Maggie Mee or Instant Noodle was almost their staple diet. One of them used to get stomach ache quite regularly, and I found out that often, as there was no food, after school in the evenings he would play basketball to exhaust himself physically, bathe and go to bed without food for the night ! That was about 5 years ago.

Z.Yong is today pursuing Diploma in Automotive Technology; he should be doing his Internship by the 2nd half next year, and start working by end of next year. Aaron and S.Lap are pursuing their SPM exams this year.

I asked the Boys to reflect on their experience in distributing food to the Homeless, and to share their thoughts ... the following are their thoughts .....

Thank you to all KYCO Members and other KYCO CSP Supporters who contributed to the funds to make it possible for food to be distributed to the Homeless 🙏 Om Mani Padme Hum 🙏💖🪷

Aaron's thoughts ....

"Donating food to homeless people makes one feel fulfilled and compassionate, because it helps them. Seeing them receive food and care feels particularly warm and uplifting."

Z.Yong's thoughts ....

"When I followed Abang to the city center to distribute food and water to the homeless people nearby, I felt very sympathetic and compassionate because they live in a very messy environment. It is hard to imagine how they can survive. At the same time, I am also very grateful for everything I have now. The food we provide can bring them a little warmth and energy so that they can at least not be hungry and cold for the night."

S.Lap's thoughts ....

"Last weekend I helped distribute food to the homeless at Chinatown, I saw many different lives. Some had no income due to illness, and others had no family. What disappointed me the most was that most of them were in good health with hands and feet, but they still chose to be homeless. In the end, I hope everyone can live a happy life. I hope society can help the homeless more."
