KYCO-CSP is planning an upcoming Project to provide some assistance to the Blind & Visually Impaired (hereafter referred to as Visually Impaired) through MBSA (Malaysian Blind Sports Association) to help this marginalized community in Malaysia to have an opportunity to play sports and even to excel and realise their dreams to represent our country in the international sports arena.

Unlike the sighted people, the Visually Impaired lack access to sports facilities, equipment and training grounds. However, despite their disability and lack of amenities, quite a number of them have triumphed and brought fame to Malaysia by winning in Asian Games and Paralympics.

It takes the Visually Impaired more than sheer grit, and determination to break through their physical limitation and overcome significant personal challenges, and financial hurdles to participate in sports, to be trained and pursue their sport dreams.

This is where MBSA, a Non-Profit Voluntary National Sports Organization, play a crucial role for the Visually Impaired. Among their objectives are to help the Visually Impaired to actively participate in various sports, train players, organise state and national tournaments for sports like Showdown, Lawn Bowling, Power Lifting, Judo, Goalball among others.

The Visually Impaired National Players have made a mark in  Asian and International Tournaments, including Para Asian Games ( Lawn Bowls), Para SEA Games ( Goalball, Football, Judo ), Paralympics (Tandem Cycling ) etc.

KYCO-CSP  members visited MBSA and the visually impaired athletes who requested some support. We found that they deserve assistance especially in the area of sports equipment where repair and replacements are needed to enable more Blind to play and to be trained. Blind sports equipments are specially made, modified, mostly imported and costly. Eg. a pair of special goggles cost USD40-50, a set of Lawn bowls cost RM2,400.

All are welcome to join us to assist these remarkable visually impaired athletes to fulfill their sports aspirations, encouraging them to live a meaningful and purposeful life, giving them hope and cheers while they break through their many hurdles due to their limitations.  They give meaning to the words- Discipline, Perseverance, Patience and loyal to the Sports & the country.

The Project is also a valuable opportunity for CSP students to interact and play sports with the Visually Impaired, gain valuable exposure to life challenges and learn virtues such as courage, determination and resilience in the face of difficulties.
