Sharing Session by Older Student Queenie

Education Assistance Program. Sharing her personal thoughts.

Queenie, the student who share her personal thoughts and experiences with the younger batch of students and their parents.

Some " youths volunteers" who mentored her in the early years when the education program was first  started, were at the event to listen to her sharing. They were surprised at the change in  these students who came to yours and our lives . They  needed our  help badly years ago.

This is Han..one of the youth volunteers who helped out with these children when we first started the education assistance program.

The gist I summarised below  ( for 'bananas" like me)  👇

Education Assistance Program:
Sharing her 8+ years journey  since enrolling in the CSP program with the parents and students who are relatively newer, with these;-

History

Her father's sudden demise; her mother was at wit's end having to join the job market to work to feed her 4 children, yet needing to ensure their safety as they will be home alone at a vulnerable age.

The good fortune that KYCO-CSP ' adopted' all 4 children  means the children can be safe at the tuition centre after school in the right company with extended hours when their mother is all work. Nothing is ideal but it has helped them at crucial moments.

Provisions and financial assistance

KYCO assistance in providing provisions, greatly reduced their worries at those critical moments. She continued to work part-time to assist her mother.

What was the  learning from KYCO -CSP program

Some understanding of Kuan Yin Dharma especially hearing about Sifu's Teachings on the practices of the 18  Virtuous Qualities.
Joining CSP in the charitable activities where they are exposed to life's experiences - the Ups & Downs giving them better insights into themselves. Without financial independence, they are unable to return the kindness shown to them. However, she said they are able to return the favour to the society through joining in the activities of CSP sporadically eg helping to pack provisions and distribution to needy families.

Benefits of involvement with CSP

Helping others is help self. That year when she needed to apply for scholarship, one crucial requirement was that proof was required  that she was actively in charitable activities. Fortunately through the years, there were photos recorded as evidence when she has to submit her CV.
If she has not joined  CSP, she would not have be able to receive the scholarship as she fall  short of achieving 10As result when she applied for scholarship. The portfolio on her charitable activities turned out to be not  only compulsory but helped her to clinched the much needed scholarship. Helping others indirectly is helping oneself.

Urging parents to guide their children in the right direction and facilitate their children's involvement

To join  CSP program eg visit to Shelter Homes, packing of provisions, attend mentoring program .

To work with the mentors of CSP who are always guiding them to continue higher education if not a skill for a better future. ( She herself has never thought / dreamt she would make it to University)

As children, from her experience, parental guidance is crucial to ensure their children can fully benefit from the effort and opportunities given by KYCO-CSP.

NOTE
She reiterated that, her family is grateful to be assisted by contributors who alleviated a mother 's fear of her children falling in the wrong way  as she has to take up the role of bread winner.
The helping hands to work with CSP 's activities are valuable lessons. And unknowing we seems to help others But in actuality we reap the rewards.
Parents are the influencers to shape a young child 's future even though KYCO-CSP is holding their hands*
