👇 Education Assistance Program
Some information on what was going on, through the holidays for some of the older batch of students. AK shared on what some of the students did in Dec over their holidays, hence I have further helped AK to explain a bit more, as some stayed with me.
Thank you all for it's each and every bit of your kind thoughts, wishes, prayers and financial contributions that have helped these children...
Hence these students progress are from your generosity.
Om Mani Padme Hum.
We are a very small team, and not able to carry out big service to the community, but with all your collective generosity, we have done a little to those that come knocking on our door.
Education with nurturing for the not so cream children in their undesirable background is never smooth going and is not a one off program ...BUT thank you friends, these children you have been ' watching ' and helping with patience, and trusting us to try , are now young adults 14 to 17 years old.
Education - Update on some of the older students.
DH volunteered to follow up (review) on the progress of these older boys this year.
ZC, ZH, HC and WX.
Also to get to know their progress and understand them better.
(We have done update on 5 students, 2 girls and 3 boys ( these 3 are with PG now) who followed us to Ipoh 2 weeks ago.
Today DH took the boys to the " Escape Room"...
It's a program that challenges their mind, creativity in teamwork and problem solving and DH is the leader for these boys 🥴🤭.
These program is a prelude to her " scrutinizing" them when she took them to Kinokuniya book shop where they get a place to sit and chat... The Escape Room and Kinokuniya are what the boys wanted very much to visit.
DH reported they are are all progressing well and like working their brain at the Escape Room.
ZH is the only one who is still are a relatively more introvert boy...but he is getting better.
ZC is now in college.
HC and ZH are in form 4.
WX is doing his 2nd year in form 6.
When DH walked in to the house after sending the boys home at 9pm, I was working on the girls....they were half dying, and DH saved them.....they then got their break and had dinner. After dinner, it's DH turn with them.
I have them all home already, for them to prepare to go back to school tomorrow.
The one week plus they stayed with me...well DH and I learned a lot and also a joy housing them too despite lots of inconveniences, - pushing them around like sheep to provide them exposure to lives in PJ. Without a car in their home, no guardians to show them other places except Setapak ..you can imagine their lack of exposure ( but they learn thro social media which is a good and bad thing too). At least they learn and dare to take LRT... without money it's limited exploration by themselves which is also a good thing.
DH does what she can when I am work.
Once I am home, they then have me, the fierce one.
It's looking at how to help them in their weak subjects as they are going into their Form 5 exam soon.
DH and myself could not finish what we needed to go thro but we have agreed to meet them at Tadika where they can all gather. We shall do another 2 rounds of face to face with them apart from sorting out small issues on video meetings. They are good too...all helping each other, the strong helping and sharing their knowledge with the weak ones. All wanting the others to get thro their exam so as to have a chance in skill training or go further to college.
We talk about skill training, PTPTN loan and interest free loans that are open to them of course.
They lack real live exposure . A few of them worked part time this school holidays.
Nothing perfect, but this group of older kids have been with us ...the longest 10 years to shortest 6 years ..Our program which you are kindly supporting too , aim to nurture them, hoping they go more in the " correct and right' living even if they are not made for academic.
They are not the cream, but the more down and out kids in the neighborhood whom could continue with us. That's what your kind support/ contribution been going to.
What they shared this round and crucial to them to see how some do not have the opportunity to complete their education:-
These kids see for themselves some of their classmates from similar ( urban poor, dysfunctional in family make up mostly from single mother or father or only a relative to help them, plus NON or poorly educated relatives) condition, going off in less desirable direction. They told me , one of their ex school mate, who is not 17, is now married with a newborn. The girl with the newborn has to get her own mother to continue supporting her. They discuss about their classmate because the girl's mother has 4 children and in our Provisions List.
On compassion ground, we / you been contributing provisions to the mother of this girl with the newborn ...the mother works day and night at a hawker stall cooking and not able to provide guidance to her own children. Her husband has neurological disorders post head trauma accident and is depending on the wife. He is physically able enough but not mentally. Our batch of students have earlier introduced this new mother to join our Education Program 4 years earlier....but when I interviewed her, she was already a drop out ...she said she has always been bullied and looked down and decided not to attend classes. I told her and her mother, if she can re enroll, and serious to learn, we can try her out.
For this family,- It's going to be a revolving cycle of " less education, less opportunity" for this mother and all her 4 children. One now is married with a newborn. Another girl on the way to drop out from school.
2 more kids , preferring to help their mother to prepare food and doing poorly in their academic.
This being the kind of life of the children who came to us in our program albeit in varying degrees. We can help some ...a very tiny few only..... hopefully together we can help them and in a few years feel the gladness when they start to work.
On behalf of CSP of KYCO Program, we thank you for all your kindness and generosity.
I explained to the students the collective generosity of others and the willingness to share to help out those like them. When they are able they too must return the same to society as their honour to those who have been generous in heart to help them whether known or unknown to them.
AK and some see these students too and they know AK well and quite fond of him actually 😁.
THANK YOU ALL
